Best day this week
I think it was Sunday this week.  We were in Enniskillen, at the Irish Mensa Annual Gathering, and I did the Lazy Sunday boat trip while Chris had a seaplane ride.  Our boat trip was pleasant, the weather was glorious, and we had about half an hour on Devenish Island, a beautiful uninhabited island with some medieval ruined churches and a round stone tower.  The views were breathtaking as there were no buildings on the surrounding mainland, so apart from the archaeological features on the island, the only things you could see were the sky, water, and fields.  It was very peaceful.

Favourite meal of the week
We skipped the IMAG formal dinner on Saturday evening, and found ourselves a nice bistro in Enniskillen, where I had a delicious homecooked seafood pie.

Favourite Mensa activity this week
The whole IMAG weekend has been excellent.  They are usually hugely enjoyable and this has been no exception.  From being met by our friend V. at the airport, to seeing everyone at The Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast City Centre before getting our coach to Enniskillen, right through to the farewell meal, it's been another legendary IMAG.

Progress on last week’s objectives
Investigate Dropbox - have had a quick look and think it will be useful for a number of tasks I have to do.
Reschedule burglar alarm service - Done
Pay balance owing for forthcoming holiday - Done
Finalise SIG newsletter and send for printing & distribution - not yet complete as I'm still receiving contributions.  I hope to finish it this week.

Key objectives for the coming week
- Complete Intermezzo, my SIG newsletter
- Continue investigating venues for Mensa Brilliant, and ideally book somewhere
- I've decided to have our en-suite bathroom refitted (I use this and Chris uses the main bathroom) so I need to investigate local suppliers/fitters.

Favourite moment of the week
Sitting in a Wetherspoons in Enniskillen with a small group of friends, drinking real cider and just chatting.  Lots of anecdotes, reminiscences and laughter.  I drank too much, but it was just what the best Mensa weekends are all about.

Best work moment of the week
Hearing that our contracts have been extended to 31st March 2012.  Given the current economic climate I was very surprised, but pleased I don't have to think about jobhunting again just yet.  And there is budget to hire another person, so I will be able to hand over my other patch eventually and just concentrate on London.

What have I learned this week
I've learned that I really need to keep an eye on my drinking again.  It's still under control but I am drinking gradually more, culminating in far too much cider on Sunday afternoon.  When I wake up feeling delicate I know I've overdone it.  It's eight years since I "stopped" drinking, and I think I need to stop again before I get back to the stage I was at before, where I drank more than I was comfortable with.

I've also learned that there are places that can instill a real sense of peace and contentment, however briefly.  Just for a few moments on Devenish Island, the world seemed far away and I had a feeling of complete calm.
